A Quick Orientation of Wellington
Wellington embraces the important port of Lambton Harbour. The heart of Wellington is the city centre, located near the southern edge of the harbour. From here you can head south along vibrant Cuba street, host to several seasonal festivals including the famous Fringe Festival. From Cuba Street, take a left onto Dixon street and you'll find yourself in trendy Courtenay Place, rich with cafés, restaurants, theatres and Wellington's exciting nightlife. Northwest from the centre lies the Golden Mile, the premier shopping district, boasting several shopping arcades and major department stores as well as excellent dining options.
Wellington's waterfront lies just to the north and east of the city centre, stretching from Oriental Parade in the east to Queen's Wharf in the north and includes cycling and walking trails as well as several tourist attractions such as the Wellington Maritime Museum. North of Queen's Wharf lies the Thorndon District, one of the city's oldest and most historic areas and the location of some of the city's most fascinating architecture.
