A Quick Orientation of Seattle
Seattle is a city that is divided by its natural features of water and hills. Downtown Seattle is the busy financial hub of the city, encompassing Pike Place Market and some shopping and restaurant areas. Belltown is located to the north of downtown and is a fashionable area, while other trendy areas of the city include: Ballard, with its lively nightlife scene; and Freemont, boasting bars and breweries.
Capitol Hill is a district next to downtown, famed for its colourful nightlife. Pioneer Square also has a good reputation for night activity, while the International District offers a diverse Asian presence and is a great place to sample Asian foods. Some other areas you may encounter are: West Seattle, a residential area with beaches; South Seattle, a commercial area known as SoDo; Queen Anne, offering great views of the city; and Greenlake, popular with residents.
