A Quick Orientation of New York
Most tourist attractions are on the island of Manhattan, the centre of New York, which is full of skyscrapers, shops, restaurants, galleries and much more. In the south of Manhattan are the financial district, Lower East Side, Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo and the trendy Greenwich Village, with its fashionable cafés, bars, houses and restaurants.
To the north of here are Times Square, Central Park and the wealthy Upper East Side, with its exclusive shops and restaurants. The outer boroughs of New York include the Bronx to the northeast, Queens and Brooklyn to the east and south, and Staten Island to the southwest, each with their own distinct neighbourhoods and attractions.
Right in the middle of Manhattan island is Central Park, a magnicent huge green lung for the city and it is a whole day's attraction in itself. Walking the entire length of Manhattan would take several hours, but it's best to split your visit in two; concentrating on the Park, Empire State Building, Fifth Avenue and Times Square on one excursion, and Broadway, Greenwich Village the museums, Wall Street and Statue of Liberty on another.
