A Quick Orientation of Menorca
Menorca is approximately 15 miles long and six miles wide. The two oldest and largest towns in Menorca are Mao and Ciutadella. These two towns are situated at opposite ends of the island and are located about 12 miles apart. The walled capital of Menorca, Mao is located in a large natural harbour. Going from Mao to Ciutadella, you will pass through some interesting smaller towns, such as Aiaior, Es Mercadel and Ferreres. Connections can be made from any of these interesting towns to other locations on the island.
The north coast and the south coast of Menorca are contrastingly different from each other, with both sections being worth a visit. The north coast is a display of sheer cliffs, open rock face and rough waves - the kind of scenery worth capturing with a camera or on canvas. The south coast is full of sandy coves with fine golden sand and gentle overhanging cliffs. Some of the best beaches can be found at the eastern end of the south coast.
