A Quick Orientation of Colorado Springs
From the airport, head west along East Platte avenue to reach the downtown district of Colorado Springs. This recently renovated area is the bustling heart of the city, home to numerous attractions including speciality shops, historic buildings, art galleries and much of Colorado Springs' first-class dining and nightlife. In the shadow of the towering Pike's Peak, downtown Colorado Springs is one of the busiest areas in the city.
From the city centre, head west along West Cimarron avenue for about seven miles until you reach the well-preserved Old Colorado Springs. This historic area has come a long way from its origins as a den of drinking and prostitution and is now a popular tourist attraction, featuring a wide variety of shops, galleries and restaurants. Farther along West Cimarron avenue lies Manitou Springs. Technically an independent town in its own right, Manitou Springs has been absorbed by the larger city over recent years. However, as one of the country's largest National Historic Districts, it still maintains its own distinct charm and character, with its Victorian buildings, quiet charm and growing arts scene.
