A Quick Orientation of Cincinnati
Cincinnati is the traditional bridge between north and south in the US and the city displays quite a bit of southern charm in its layout and architecture. The main district of Cincinnati is the downtown area, the focal point of which is the historic and attractive Fountain Square, built in 1871. The Genius of the Waters is the fountain that gives this popular meeting place its name. This magnificent fountain is the centrepiece for the live entertainment and festivals that are held here everyday in the summer.
Downtown Cincinnati's grid pattern of straight streets makes it very easy to navigate. Carew Tower is the tallest building in Cincinnati and it dominates the skyline. North of downtown you will find the district known as Coreyville; home to the University of Cincinnati, this is the academic and artistic centre of Cincinnati. Coreyville is the location of a large concentration of Cincinnati pubs, restaurants and coffee houses. Just east of downtown lies the Mount Adams district, known by locals as 'The Hill'. Excellent restaurants and shops, and stunning views of the Ohio River characterise this interesting and popular area. Farther east from the city centre lies Hyde Park, the centre of which is Hyde Park Square. Hyde Park is Cincinnati's high end neighbourhood, filled with fashionable and expensive boutiques and restaurants. Indian Hill is the other posh area of Cincinnati, boasting beautiful houses, expensive cars and fine restaurants. This is where the city's elite come to see and be seen.
