A Quick Orientation of Birmingham
Birmingham is located in England's West Midlands and is close to a number of other towns and cities including Warwick, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon. London is about a 2-hour drive from Birmingham, or 1 hour, 30 minutes by train.
Birmingham International Airport and the National Exhibition Centre are a short distance to the east of the city centre. Many of Birmingham's main attractions can be found in and around the city centre. The Broad Street/Brindley Place area is popular with students and has lots of lively bars and restaurants catering for all tastes. The huge Birmingham Bullring shopping centre is another attraction in the centre of Birmingham. About three miles south of the city centre, the Edgbaston area is home to Warwickshire County Ground.
The historic garden village of Bournville is about four miles south of the city centre.
The city is also blessed with beautiful natural surroundings, with the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District to the north. To the west are the Clent Hills, Malvern Hills and the impressive Shropshire countryside, while the Cotswold Hills lie to the south. All these natural attractions are easily accessible from Birmingham.
